I thought I’d share a fond memory while working away on lesson plans early this Friday morning.
Growing up, I’d occasionally wake up in the middle of the night (be it in Grade School or later High School) and the one thing I would find consistently is my Dad working away on planning for classes later that day.
I’d later learn that he would be most productive (and with a clear mind) during the early morning hours while having his cup of coffee in preparation for the day ahead.
Depending on the hour, I would either go back to sleep or prep for morning practice (onto which he used to drive me to the University and back in time for class over the years until I transferred to Assumption).
Now, many years later…I find myself sitting here working away (with my coffee of course) and my son waking up on occasion realizing that we’ve come full circle and that I am JUST LIKE DAD!
My father (John Renaud), who comes from and practices a tremendous Catholic faith, was a teacher within the separate school board system between 1973-2000. He served his longest term as a Grade 7 teacher at St. Rose Catholic Elementary School where during his free time had coached a myriad of sports teams while organizing the Canada-Wide Science Fair.
Without my Dad, my mom and countless educators and coaches along the way who invested their time, faith and support in me, I would not be where I am today.
p.s. I would bet two things right now:
- My morning cup of coffee you are up right now reading;
- That this is probably the reason you never had me writing on the boards…”If I was doing what I should have been doing, I wouldn’t be doing this now!”
